Akeya
Anointing Oil
God’s first question after the fall
isn’t what you would expect . . .
He gave them a simple commandment.
Do not eat the fruit of THAT tree.
But THEY gave in.
And when they REALIZED what they had done,
They RAN and HID.
And tried to COVER it up.
And then God comes into the garden.
And asks His FIRST question.
Where are you?
It’s hard to discern His voice tone from 5000 years ago.
BUT the Hebrew of the word teaches us something
about HIS HEART.
The word is “Akeya” and it’s the only time it
SHOWS up in the whole bible.
The other Hebrew word for “where” is used all over.
But this particular word isn’t about location.
It’s about RELATIONSHIP.
It is a word that carries SORROW.
LONGING.
A CRY of LOSS.
The word a parent uses if their child is missing.
He didn’t storm in asking “How could you?”
He didn’t stomp His feet with a Fee FI FO FUM.
He came in walking.
Gently.
Grieving.
Wondering why His children would hide from Him.
Where are you??
Where are you going?
Why would you run from the only ONE able to help you?
The only one willing to pay the price to save you?
What did the serpent tell you about ME that made YOU think I was the kind of Father you would need to run from?
The question wasn’t for information.
It was an invitation.
It was making space to return.
And it’s a question He still asks.
So, if you ever find yourself running.
Or hiding.
Or covering yourself in shame.
If you ever stop praying.
Or stop hoping.
Or stop believing He would want you close.
Listen for His gentle question.
Akeya
“Where are you?”
It will be His FIRST feeling.
And another way of simply saying
“I MISS you, Come home.”
• Comes with a small white flag symbolic of surrender and I’m coming home!
